Edmonton, City of Festivals

Standing: Daughter Beth and I
Sitting: Good friend Cat and Daughter Megan

I spent a few days last week visiting my daughters Megan and Beth in Edmonton.  The Fringe Festival was in full swing, and we saw some incredible theatre.  It helps when your daughter is a stage manager – she knows the best plays to see!  I was really impressed with the whole Fringe experience.  Even the beer gardens were good!  The Fringe has a policy of reduce/recycle/reuse, and follow it through with compostable glasses for the beers and ciders, and the wine comes in small recyclable bottles!  So there I was, enjoying a Stone Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon right out of the bottle.  Cheers!

Italian Amarone is fabulous

Just a quick reminder we are featuring the wines of Italy this month at special prices.  Rod and I won a Silver Award in International competition for the Italian Amarone – it’s an incredible wine that is smooth as silk right out of the carboy, and improves incredibly with time.  It ferments for a week, and then we add corn sugar and re-ferment.  This increases the alcohol content, and leaves a bit of residual sugar to create a rich, warm, great-bodied wine that will complement winter dinners.  So come on in to Wine Central – where great wines are yours for the making – Guaranteed!

Thank you Allister and Tamara

We just received a great testimonial from Allister and Tamara, who have been customers of Wine Central for the past year.  Please check out our Testimonials section!  Allister is a great fitness coach – he owns Crossfit Glenmore, where I’ve been training for the past 8 months.  It’s a great workout, and allows me to drink wine!  Cheers, and have a great weekend.

Explore Italy

We’re excited to explore Italy this month.  Save 10% off the kit price of any of these Selection International  wines, and receive a ballot for an exciting prize to be drawn September 1.  This is a great time to start your Christmas wines!

Italian Amarone:  Deep ruby red with a spicy-earthy bittersweet finish that lengthens indefinitely from the huge volume of tannins.  Rod and I won a Silver award at the International WineMakers competition for this wine, and it is fantastic.  Let it age and you have a wine to savour and share with your best friends.  It’s slightly off-dry with a medium oak intensity and a medium-full body.

Italian Montepulciano:  Deeply coloured rich red wine with flavours of blackberry and black pepper.  Full-bodied with moderate tannins and balancing acidity.  Dry with a medium oak intensity.

Italian Sangiovese:  A bright red cherry character, overlaying strawberry notes, with hints of violets and white pepper.  Its medium body and long, smooth, tannic finish is livened by a zing of acidity and toasty oak.  Dry, Medium Oak and medium body.

Italian Pinot Grigio:  Bright, crisp and dry white wine with notes of perfume and spice on the nose.  Fresh and lively with flavours of citrus and almond.  A great sipping wine.  Dry, no oak, light-medium body.

Cheers!
